Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'However Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman accused with stalking Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court heard call records and information obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered missing child cases and remains open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another recorded message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I am she? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to discover," the recording stated.
The panel was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the evidence, advised the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On that date, the father responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court heard the co-defendant struck up a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the months leading up to the visit to that location, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in that autumn, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their residence, the defendant sent a message which said: "We're currently sat outside the McCanns' house with our headlights off similar to private investigators. I wanted to do this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
